Jeff Bezos’ Morning Routine: A Lesson in Productivity and Relaxation

The Surprising Morning Routine of Jeff Bezos: Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Despite being one of the most successful and busy individuals in the world, Jeff Bezos, the executive chairman of Amazon and owner of Blue Origin, starts his day in a surprisingly relaxed manner. In a recent interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, the billionaire revealed that his morning routine is all about taking things slow and steady.

“I’m not as productive as you might think I am,” Bezos admitted to Fridman, shocking the host who had just introduced him as one of the most productive people in the world. Bezos shared that he starts his day by leisurely scrolling through his phone, enjoying a cup of coffee, and moving around at his own pace.

His morning routine also includes reading a newspaper, chatting with his fiance, and hitting the gym for cardio and weightlifting. Bezos believes in embracing aimlessness, both in his personal life and in the workplace, allowing his mind to wander during brainstorming sessions to foster creativity without the constraints of time.

Bezos attributes his early morning routine to waking up early, although he has not disclosed a specific wake-up time. He emphasized the importance of going to bed early and rising early to kickstart his day.

Interestingly, Bezos is not the only billionaire with a laid-back morning routine. Mark Cuban, entrepreneur and investor, shared on Trevor Noah’s podcast that he starts his day by checking emails in bed before having breakfast and working out. Cuban believes in a rinse and repeat approach to his mornings.

Experts suggest that taking it slow in the mornings can actually boost energy, creativity, and focus. Geir Berthelsen, founder of the World Institute of Slowness, recommends spending at least 20 minutes each morning doing absolutely nothing to help clear the mind and prepare for the day ahead.

In a world where productivity is often equated with constant busyness, Bezos and Cuban’s morning routines serve as a reminder that sometimes, a slower approach can lead to greater success. So, the next time you feel rushed in the morning, consider taking a cue from these billionaires and embrace a more relaxed start to your day.
