Al Roker Defends Kelly Clarkson Against Critics of Weight Loss Medication Use
In a recent episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the singer opened up about her weight loss journey, revealing that she has been using medication to help shed the pounds. However, Clarkson faced backlash from critics who questioned her decision to take medication for weight loss.
Al Roker, who has been open about his own struggles with obesity, came to Clarkson’s defense on the “Today” show, urging people to stop judging others for their choices when it comes to their health.
“There’s too much judgment going on,” Roker said. “People, as long as they’re working with their doctors and being healthy about it, people ought to just back off and let them live their lives.”
Roker, who underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2002, knows firsthand the challenges of trying to lose weight. He emphasized that it’s not easy, no matter what method someone chooses.
“Listen, I took a raft of stuff when I had bypass surgery. It’s not easy, whatever you do, so get off people’s backs,” Roker said.
Clarkson revealed that her doctor had been urging her to try the medication for two years before she finally agreed. She clarified that the medication she is taking is not Ozempic, a popular choice among celebrities for weight loss.
While Ozempic is not FDA-approved for weight loss, it has gained popularity for its off-label use in helping individuals shed excess pounds. Other similar drugs have been approved for patients with weight control issues and other chronic conditions related to weight.
In addition to medication, Clarkson credited her weight loss to walking in New York City and using infrared saunas. She also recently added a cold plunge to her routine.
As Clarkson continues on her weight loss journey, Roker’s message of support serves as a reminder to be kind and understanding towards others who are working towards their health goals.
