1. U.S. Medical Professionals Remain in Gaza Despite Warnings
2. Humanitarian Aid Shipments to Gaza Not Enough, Says USAID Administrator
3. Analysis Shows 1,400 Buildings Damaged or Destroyed in Rafah
4. Bodies of Three Hostages Recovered by Israel Defense Forces
Three U.S. medical professionals have chosen to remain in Gaza despite warnings from the U.S. State Department that they may not be able to facilitate their departure later on. Tamer Hassan, a registered nurse, Dr. Jomana Al-Hinti, and Dr. Adam Hamawy are among the 20 American medical professionals who stayed behind to provide much-needed medical assistance to patients in Gaza.
According to ABC News, a source familiar with the situation stated, “They understand that the U.S. embassy may not be able to facilitate their departure in the same manner as we have just effected today.” The doctors who left Gaza were able to make their way to safety with the assistance of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.
In another development, humanitarian aid shipments have been delivered to Gaza through the U.S.’ maritime corridor. However, USAID Administrator Samantha Power emphasized that this aid should not replace the crucial aid coming into the enclave through land crossings. Power highlighted the importance of keeping the crossings open to ensure the continuous flow of aid to prevent famine and alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza.
Meanwhile, satellite imagery analysis has revealed that almost 1,400 buildings in Rafah, Gaza, have been damaged or destroyed since May 4. Researchers used data from the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite to assess the impact of the conflict on the buildings in the area.
In a tragic development, the bodies of three hostages have been recovered by the Israel Defense Forces. The hostages, Shani Louk, Yitzhak Gelanter, and Amit Buskila, were killed in the area of Kibbutz Mefalsim and their bodies were taken to Gaza. The IDF conducted an operation to retrieve their bodies, and Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari expressed condolences to the families of the victims, promising to spare no effort in bringing them home.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with ongoing conflict and humanitarian challenges affecting the lives of civilians. The dedication of medical professionals and the efforts of aid organizations are crucial in providing support and relief to those in need amidst the turmoil.
