Brazil to Host 2027 Women’s World Cup after FIFA Vote
Brazil to Host 2027 Women’s World Cup in Historic First for South America
In a historic decision, Brazil has been chosen to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, marking the first time the global tournament will be held in South America. The FIFA Congress voted 119-78 in favor of Brazil over a joint bid from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany, solidifying Brazil’s position as the host nation.
The decision comes after a joint bid from the United States and Mexico was withdrawn, and South Africa also pulled out of the running. With the reduced field of candidates, Brazil emerged as the clear favorite to host the prestigious tournament.
The Brazilian bid team celebrated the victory, hailing it as a triumph for women’s soccer, their country, and the entire South American region. Brazil’s soccer federation president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, emphasized the significance of hosting the Women’s World Cup in the wake of recent natural disasters that have affected the country.
“We are a South American country that achieved the victory for women’s soccer,” said Rodrigues. “After the things that impact all Brazilians – a catastrophe due to climate change – our achievement today, the first Women’s World Cup in South America, will help strengthen us.”
The decision to award Brazil the hosting rights was a significant milestone for FIFA, as it was the first time that all member associations had the opportunity to vote on the host of the women’s tournament. Previously, the decision was made by the FIFA Council.
Brazil’s successful bid was further bolstered by its high ranking in an evaluation report by a FIFA-appointed panel. The country’s strong soccer tradition and passion for the sport were key factors in securing the hosting rights for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
The next World Cup votes, to endorse the hosts for the 2030 and 2034 tournaments, will take place on December 11 in an online congress. With Brazil set to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, the stage is set for an exciting and historic tournament that will showcase the best of women’s soccer in South America.
