Influence of Celebrities in Politics: Poll Shows Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Kim Kardashian Endorsements Have Little Impact
The Influence of Celebrities in Politics: A New Poll Reveals Surprising Results
In a recent Suffolk University/USA TODAY national poll of registered voters, it was revealed that popular celebrities like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Kim Kardashian may not have as much influence in politics as one might think. The poll showed that only 3% of voters said a Swift or Beyoncé endorsement would influence them “a lot,” while 89% and 91% respectively said it would not matter at all or make them less likely to support a candidate. Kardashian, despite her massive social media following and philanthropic efforts, fared even worse with not one respondent indicating that her endorsement would matter a lot.
Interestingly, former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama were the only ones on the list of influencers who seemed to have some impact. 18% of voters said that the former president’s endorsement would influence them a lot. However, when looking at undecided voters, their influence was less significant.
The poll also explored the potential of female celebrities transitioning into politics. Oprah Winfrey, Sandra Bullock, Serena Williams, and Viola Davis were among the celebrities listed, with varying levels of support from voters. Winfrey, known for her talk show and production success, garnered 30% of voters who said they would be more likely to support her as a candidate, especially among Democrats. Bullock, the versatile actress, had broader appeal across party lines, while Williams, the tennis champion, and Davis, the acclaimed actress, also received significant support.
Overall, the poll highlighted the complex relationship between celebrities and politics, showing that while some may have influence, others may not resonate with voters as much. As the 2024 election approaches, it will be interesting to see how these findings play out in the political landscape.
